about

In "The Strider Song" I set to music Bilbo Baggins', i. e. J. R. R. Tolkien's poem about the fate of Aragorn son of Arathorn (The Fellowship of the Ring). I added a second stanza, explaining Aragorn's decision to accept death after a long life, for only that way lies hope: Prof. Tolkien, a practising Catholic, would probably agree.
This time, my brilliant teacher Andreas Klees, in addition to weaving harmony with his electrical guitar, performs with his voice, too. His counterpointal singing does something ... elvish to the song.
Anyhow, it has been an honour to add even a stanza to Middle-earth, and it is time to raise our glasses to: The Professor!

lyrics

The Strider Song

All that is gold does not glitter,
not all those who wander are lost.
The old that is strong does not wither,
deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
a light from the shadows shall spring.
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
the crownless again shall be king.

We shall prevail against evil,
yet there's no way back to the start.
Fight as we may 'gainst temptation,
its seeds have been laid in our hearts.
Innocence lost can no more be recovered,
forgiveness is all we can find.
The only way to go to heaven
is dying, for all of our kind.
